Anton Ivanov was born in 1818 as a serf. From 1833 he studied painting in St. Petersburg by Chernetsov's brothers, who were very famose painters of that time. In 1838 he accompanied with them on trip on river Volga. In 1841 he was redeemed from serfdom by Chernetsov's brothers . Since the same year he has studied in the St.Petersburg Academy of Art as an irregular student. From 1841 to 1849 he was a pensioner of the Academy of Art. From 1846 he leaved to Italy with Chernetsov's brothers and didn't come back to Russia. He was died in Rome and buried at the Monte-Testacho cemetery in 24 November 1863.
